Submissions

We’re looking for original science fiction or fantasy novellas from 20-40,000 words. We like most things—climate fiction, monsters and mythology, aliens and first contact stories, wizards on lizards, the list goes on—but since we’re anti-authoritarian, we aren’t interested in copaganda or miltitary sci-fi. We need to see authoritarianism defeated in your story. If your novella doesn’t have that, we’ll pass. Defeating authoritarianism doesn’t necessarily mean bringing down a government; smaller-scale victories are fine too, like defeating an organization, shadowy cabal, or just a powerful individual who controls the fates of others and is a jerk about it.  

We won’t publish stories that contain sexual assault (even as backstory), and we’ll pass on stories that contain child abuse, animal abuse, and slavery too. Those things are often part of authoritarian tactics, to be sure, but we are sensitive and those things make us cry too much.

We love romantic subplots and pining and all that, we’d prefer that spicy stuff beyond kissing happens off the page.

We welcome queer stories and have queer folks on our editorial staff.

We also welcome decolonized, post-capitalist tales and stories which feature disabled characters.

We don’t use AI (or LLM that gets marketed as AI) at any point of the editorial/publishing process and never will, and we expect that of our authors too. If you use AI at all in your process, don’t bother submitting to us. Thou shalt be blacklisted if you submit AI slop anyway.

We seek World English rights for five years in print and ebook, you keep audio and all other rights, and we pay a $2K advance with 10% royalties on print cover price and 50% of net in ebook.
